Met a guy who broke his neck.

Five of seven vertebrae in his neck were smashed in a car accident. He was told he may be able to use a wheelchair, but he would have never breath on his own again. He didn't have insurance, so he was released from the hospital within a month and given a month of physical therapy.

Of course, he managed to walk out of the hospital and he was practicing throwing acorns into a bucket at ten yards when I met him. He never referenced God or miracles and was quick to mention how lucky he felt. While he was in the spinal wing, he said he met other people who were recovering from similar circumstances.

It was clear when he walked that he wasn't all the way back yet, but he was studying to be a physical therapist and he had no doubt he would get himself all the way back to "normal." He never once complained. He just drank a couple of beers with me, happily answered my questions, and threw acorns into a bucket.
