Heather and I had an ambrosial Christmas in Florida. I had to wear spf 30 to keep from burning. I was hot and the water was warm and it felt delightful . I got to hang out with my new niece and I'm biased but I think she is the best baby ever. Just my opinion. She also got all the good looks and the height in the family. Holding her and watching her explore the world was an awesome experience.
Heather is dying to babysit, but my mother is having the time of her life showing my Godchild to the world. We went boating with my in-laws, and got to sit in the sun and swim for an entire day. It was a much needed respite from the New England weather I continue to romanticize. There are so many days we reconsider living in the North East. I don't ski or snowboard, I'm allergic to all fish, tuna included. Shellfish=DEATH. So why stay.
I like the isolation of winter. I like using four wheel drive to plow through snowbanks. There's nothing better than planting a garden every year. Fresh snowfall leaves the the world in a permanent twilight that I really would miss. Hot chocolate and coffee are so much more meaningful, and nothing beats the warmth of a fire and an oven baking cookies. And I'm still a sucker for Norman Rockwell.
Riding in the plane gave me a chance to catch up on my reading. Whipped through No Country for Old Men one the flight down. It took me a few hours to piece it all together, but I think the story is analogous to Billy Budd, with the idea of good versus evil and good being slightly corrupted and destroyed. Haven't seen the film, but I hear great things.
Heather and I loved What is the What, a book that doubles a personal history of one of the Lost Boys and a surprisingly funny fish out of water story. I could talk about this book for pages, so I'll leave it at that.
An Uncommon Reader was a great book to read if you like to read, if that makes any sense. I read it in under four hours, and I am a slow reader, the payoff was well worth the read.
So much more to write about. I'm currently enjoying my new semi-tan. Thinking of going to Cancun soon.
Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards All,
Powers
