Vick brothers shopping reality show based on "The Longest Yard"

Okay, I made that up (and it appears I'm at least the 20th blogger to come up with that). I do think it's pretty strange the amount of moral outrage the Vick scandal has caused. I can't pretend that I'm floored someone was selectively breeding dogs to make them the most vicious fighting dogs on the planet. Hasn't this happened in every culture that has had dogs for more the four hundred years.

Didn't we have slavery in America a few generations ago? Didn't we drop a couple of atomic bombs that killed cities full of innocent civilians. My ability to become morally outraged at anything has just about disappeared. We are a country that refused to step in at Darfur, even though enslavement and attempted genocide is happening there today (and they have oil, ask Petro-China).

I've never been to a dog fight and I never will go, but he's a professional athlete who had everything handed to him because of his abilities. Probably more so than any athlete since Iron Mike Tyson. All of his personal short comings have been overlooked from the time he was in 5th grade (conjecture). How is Vick supposed to know right from wrong if he has never had to pay for any of his mistakes. I don't think you can grow without making mistakes and paying for them.

Should he thrown out of the NFL for raising, torturing and killing animals for sport?
Don't we have hunters who ambush deer and hogs? I think Hogzilla was some kid's pet that was farm raised. Isn't hunting and killing that wrong, or is it only animals that are cute and make good traditional pets that we need to protect? Is it more wrong because he did what he did for entertainment and gambling purposes? Maybe it's just celebrities that become the target.

I personally would get no satisfaction from stalking and killing an animal (unless it's a yellow jacket wasp, we go way back as natural enemies), and I don't support or condone mutilated dogs for entertainment. I am just a little shocked at the amount of perceived moral outrage that has popped up all around the country when we couldn't and can't find the volunteers to help end American poverty or be role models for the kids growing up without parents.

Poverty causes low grades and hinders education. Poverty drives up violent and non-violent crime. Maybe people find the effects of dog fighting so much more visceral, and that's why they take the moral high ground.
